Dress Codes and Clubhouse Policies


Welcome to the Mill River Club. Your visit to the Club is very important to us and our staff is dedicated to making your visit memorable. Please take a few minutes to review the Guest Information on this page to familiarize yourself with our club polices and dress codes. 

Please note, when you arrive at the Club to play golf, we ask that you pull right up to the bag drop area. The bag room staff will be waiting to assist you with your bags and direct you to the Starter/Caddie Master. If there is anything that the staff can do for you during your visit, please let us know.

  • Standards of Dress
    • CLUBHOUSE

      Ladies and Gentlemen may wear appropriate golf and tennis attire in the various dining rooms, patio and garden until dinner service begins.
      GENTLEMEN:

      Whenever there is a dinner meal service, full-length trousers and collared shirts are required

      • Casual: Casual trousers, neat jeans (no holes or frayed jeans) and Bermuda shorts. Collared shirts
      • Elegant Casual: Trousers, neat jeans with collared shirt, long or short sleeve, permitted
      • Formal: Tuxedos with traditional accessories
      • Optional: Tuxedo with traditional accessories is preferred, but a business suit of appropriate design and color with dress shirt and necktie is acceptable
      • Jacket & Tie: Business suit or slacks and sport jacket with dress shirt and necktie
      • Neat Jeans - jeans must be neat, clean and not torn
      LADIES:
      Ladies are expected and encouraged to wear fashionable, yet appropriate, attire as called for on any given evening


      GOLF

      Golf shoes should be worn on the course, soft spikes only are permitted. Metal spikes of any kind are prohibited.
      GENTLEMEN:
      Full Length golf slacks or Bermuda length shorts
      Collared golf shirts or mocked turtlenecks, tucked in at all times
      Caps, hats and visors must be worn with the bill facing forward
      LADIES:
      Slacks, walking shorts or skirts designed as golf wear
      Sleeveless shirts with a collar or collarless shirts with a sleeve

      While the club does not discourage wear of stylish/fashionable golf attire, proper decorum should be exercised at all times. Any member, their spouse, children or guest(s) whose golf attire is deemed inappropriate or not in compliance with the above by the Starter will not be allowed on the course or practice areas without first changing into something more appropriate.



      TENNIS

      GENTLEMEN:
      Collared tennis shirts preferable, but may include collarless
      Tennis shorts
      Tennis sneakers
      LADIES:
      Sleeveless or tennis tops
      Tennis shorts or skirts
      Tennis sneakers


      POOL

      Ladies and Gentlemen shall wear swimming attire that exhibits a degree of modesty.

      The following items are prohibited at all times: undershirts, tank tops, work-out collarless tee shirts, thong bikini bathing suits.
  • Clubhouse Polices
    • Gratuities

      There is positively no tipping permitted anywhere at the Club, either by members or guests. The only exceptions are functions, such as, weddings, bar mitzvahs and golf outings.  As independent contractors, caddies are also exempt from the tipping policy.

      Cell Phone Policy

      In the interest of ensuring a peaceful environment for our members, we kindly ask you to adhere to our newly expanded cell phone policy.

      1. Cell phones should be silenced at all times on club property.
      2. Text and data use is permissible on club property.
      3. Voice calls are permissible only in the following areas: locker rooms, Rose Room with door closed, parking lot, golf cart staging area and walking paths surrounding the club.
      4. Voice calls are prohibited in all the food & beverage areas. Should you need to take a call, please expeditiously move to a permissible area.
      5. On the golf course, voice calls are prohibited in close proximity to the tee box, greens and other golf groups.
      6. Voice calls are prohibited on all golf practice areas, with the exception of the golf cart parking area by the driving range.
      7. Voice calls are always permitted to call for assistance in the event of a medical emergency.

      Common courtesy should always be extended when using cell phones on property. Cell Phone use on the golf course should never slow play.
